There are lots of myths and misconceptions prevailing these days related to holistic healing therapies. In this blog, our focus will be around these holistic treatments: Reiki Healing, Aromatherapy Massage & Acupressure massage. Reiki, Aromatherapy and Acupressure are one of the most popular and effective holistic healing therapies/treatments. We will discuss myths about these healing therapies one by one.

Reiki and Common Myths about Reiki

Reiki is Japanese technique which helps you become relaxed, stress-free and healed mentally, physically and spiritually. The idea behind reiki healing is that there is a hidden life force energy flowing inside us that keeps us alive, when this energy gets low in us we easily become sick and when this energy is high we feel happy and relaxed.

Myth 1: Reiki is a religious activity

This perception is totally wrong because Reiki has nothing to do with religion instead it is all about spirituality. The emperor of Japan, Meiji, formed the principles of Reiki. You never find a priest giving sermons on Reiki or church for Reiki. Anyone believing in any religion can take benefit from Reiki treatment.

Myth 2: Reiki practitioner is a healer

This is not true because Reiki practitioner only acts a medium in the healing procedure. The Reiki practitioner just passes on universal life force to the recipient in order to heal mind, spirit and body of the recipient. Reiki practitioners don’t have the powers to heal you they just help you; it is only you who can heal yourself.

Myth 3: Reiki treatment can heal you in just one session

This is possible but this happens quite rarely. It is said that reiki is not a onetime procedure rather it is a process and in order to see satisfactory results a person should go through 3 to 4 reiki sessions.

Myth 4: Reiki heals and cures

If reiki has helped you heal it really does not mean that it has cured you too because healing and curing are two different things. Healing has to do with attacking the root cause of your illness; it is rebalancing of wholeness while curing restores your health by alleviating symptoms of your disease.

Aromatherapy and Common Myths about Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is also known as essential oil therapy. In this type of massage therapy, aromatic essential oils extracted from a variety of plants are used to improve psychological and physical well-being of a person.

Myth 1: Aromatherapy is a replacement of standard medical practices

It is certainly not true because aromatherapy do help you feel relaxed and stress free but they are not replacement of standard medical treatments rather they are complimentary to them.

Myth 2: Aromatherapy can cure deadly diseases

This statement is quite misleading. Aromatherapy cannot cure deadly diseases like HIV, advanced stage cancer, heart stroke, etc. If standard medical treatments cannot cure these sorts of deadly diseases how is it possible that they can be treated with essential oils therapy.

Myth 3: There is a similarity between essential oils and scented oil

That’s not true. Essential oils are naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants while scented oils are artificially produced in laboratories.

Acupressure and Common Myths about Acupressure

Acupressure massage is a traditional Chinese therapy which is beneficial for relieving feeling of depression, muscle tension and pain. This technique is somewhat similar to acupuncture. Tradition Chinese therapy states that acupressure points are located near meridians in the body and there is a flow of life energy through meridians in body. Blockage in meridians of your body can result in sickness. In Acupressure treatment hands, elbows and fingers are used to place pressure on acupressure points to remove blockage in meridians. Once blockage in meridians is cleared, a person’s wellbeing and health is restored.

Myth 1: Acupressure is done with needles

Not at all. People confuse acupressure with acupuncture in which patient is treated with the help of thin needles. As far as acupressure is concerned, practitioners use their hands or elbows to remove blockages in meridians. There is no involvement of any kind of sharp instrument in this holistic healing treatment.

Myth 2: Acupressure is replacement of serious medical conditions

All healing treatments whether Reiki, Aromatherapy or acupressure cannot be used as a substitute to standard medical practices. For the treatment of chronic dieses always consult a medical doctor.

Myth 3: Acupressure is a painful treatment

It is not a painful treatment rather acupressure helps relieve pain such as headache and muscle tension. In some cases, people have good pain after acupressure this pain is somewhat similar to one we have after deep stretch. If someone feels any kind of pain during acupressure procedure he/she should ask the practitioner to stop the treatment.

Myth 4: Acupressure massage is a strict sequential procedure

This is not the case. You don’t have to follow specific sequence of moves to make acupressure treatment effective. For making acupressure treatment effective what you all need is essential oils.
Clarification of myths related to Reiki, Aromatherapy and Acupressure have been presented for guiding you. Now you can have any treatments without any confusion.
